I’ve known Terry for quite sometime now. It’s kinda weird though, I don’t think that I’ve ever actually been snowboarding with him at an actual resort! I’ve skated with him quite a bit, and hit a few handrails, and done some preseason riding with him as well, and it’s always a good time.
Here is a little bit more about Terry. I’m hoping that this year we’ll be able to go shred Brighton a few times. Thanks Terry!
How old are you?
25 years old
Years snowboarding?
Long time… First time on the mountain was Brighton, on Christmas day! When I was 9 years old.
Home mountain?
Park city, Brighton
Favorite snow video?
The art of flight
Do you still skate?
I like to skate every once and a while now, it’s not an everyday sesh like it use to be. I am super busy and can’t get out much!
Have you hit a handrail since your little incident on that P.G. rail?
Nothing street, just park rails and easy stuff like that! Since that day I have toned it down quite a bit. BOUGHT A HELMET (and so should everyone else that reads this.) For those that don’t know I tore my ACL, partially tore my MCL. Doctors say I should have serious brain damage. Life is too precious and short to gamble with street rails. My focus will now be powder and big mountain riding.
What is the wasatch assassins? Do you still do anything with that?
The wasatch assassins was meant to be a crew centered around snowboarding i don’t know if my buddy is still pushing that, but i am not right now.
Favorite trick?
Toeside, frontside 720 with a little bit of cork action! You know what I’m sayin?!
Have you been riding much this year?
Sadly no! Shoot me now!
Favorite snowboard of all time?
My latest custom from revolution was definitely the best!
Favorite pro of all time?
JP Walker / Jeremy Jones / now Travis rice.
Would you say you’re better at golf than snowboarding, or the other way around?
Snowboarding for sure.
Worst new trend in snowboarding if there is one…?
I hate how it turns into a fashion show whenever you are up on the mountain!
Any last words?
“Get yourself a damn helmet! ”
Thanks again Terry!

In 2003, maybe 2004, I got a copy of AMbition and got to see Dave Munoa for the first time. I wanna say that he did a cab 270 (the hard way) onto the trail side rail in Park City for his ender! I remember another time just waiting to hit curvy rainbow rail in kings crown park, and Dave came flying by and just threw down the craziest line through the whole park effortlessly. He’s had some solid parts in a lot of the F.D.O.T. movies, and is just overall one of my favorite people to watch on a snowboard. Dave was nice enough to answer a few questions and here is what he had to say:
Q: How old are you?
A: 27
Q: Where are you from?
A: I was born in Temecula CA, moved to Provo Utah when I was 14. Then Park City when I was 19.
Q: How many years riding?
A: 13
Q: Home mountain/favorite mountain?
A: P.C./ Canyons
Q: Favorite Snow movie of all time?
A: Technical difficulties
Q: Least favorite snow movie of all time?

A: Devun Walsh and John Jackson all of the Wolf Pack
Q: Favorite part about snowboarding?
A: Landing new tricks
Q: Least favorite part?
A: Broken bones
Q: Favorite trick?
A: Frontside dub cork 10
Q: Favorite shot of your own in movie?
A: There was one in sate of mind . I did a cab seven FT but the angle was not so good
Q: Sponsors?
A: Ryan hong haha.
Q: Do you still skate?
A:Pump transitions and the pc park.
Q: Seems like a lot of people are getting into mtn biking… are you?
A: Hell yeah got a trek remedy and I love down hill
Q: Any last words?

Thanks again Dave.

The first memory I have of Shylio is a little kid that used to get in my way at good old Orem Park. I think I get in his way now as an old fat guy. Haha! He was like Four feet tall, and would go around doing switch heelflips, and 6 inch frontboards on the flatbar at the park.
It seemed like whenever I went down to the park he was there, and when I’d leave after a few hours, he’d still be there! I think that is a huge reason why he kills it today. His consistency and love for skateboarding are what impress me the most about this kid. I think that is what impressed Ben and Todd at Milosport Orem as well. Here is a little bit about Shylio. Keep up the good work man!
Q: How old are you?
A: 16
Q: Where do you live?
A: I just moved to Payson Utah.
Q: How many years have you been skating?
A: I’m not sure I think I have been really into it and continually doing it for about eight or nine years.
Q: What is your favorite part about skating?
A: Winning the battle.. When your trying a trick for hours and you feel like you cant go on and give that last one and make it the feeling you get when you land that trick is amazing there’s nothing like it that’s why i keep doing it.
Q: What is your least favorite part about skating?
A: Definitely getting hurt because the whole time your sitting out all you can think about is skating and how much you want to do it. I think thats the worst part.
Q: Favorite Skater?
A: Chaz Ortiz i like his style and the tricks he does he just makes them look sick
Q: Favorite Skate Video?
A: Right now I think its Nyjah’s new part. It gets me really motivated to go skate and try something crazy.
Q: Favorite Skate Park?
A: South Jordan. I love the five and the little rail.
Q: Favorite Street Spot?
A: Orem jr. High six. Its a little bit of a bigger set but its super fun and perfect for learning stuff and its covered so you can skate it year round.
Q: Favorite Skate shoes?
A: Im not sure about that one i liked the DC Matches but anything by DC is good really.
Q: Favorite Skate shop?
A: Milo Sport Orem Represent!
Q: Favorite Trick?
A: I think that would have to be front feebles. I just love the way they feel and they look sick to.
Q: Least favorite trick?
A: Any sort of casper trick! Number one i cant do them. And number two they are just lame.
Q: Any Last words?
A: Thanks for having me! And i want to thank my mom, grandma, and milo sport for everything they do!

A few years ago I got the pleasure of snowboarding and hanging out with Kyle Porter. I met him through Uri Ruvalcaba, and hit a few handrails, played a few poker games, and rode up at Brighton with him.
Although he is not from here originally, and does not live here currently, he lived in Utah for a few years, and comes back once in a while, and according to him is coming back this winter as well. I thought it would be pretty cool to get some perspective from someone who is not originally from Utah, but lived here long enough to know what it’s all about.
He also has pretty cool website called Eleven Eleven Creations. Check it out!
Q: How old are you?
A: just turned 21 a couple days ago.
Q: Where are you from?
A: Sacramento, C.A.
Q: Did you like your extended stay here in Utah?
A: Yeah definitely, amazing snow and mountains, super good food, and i was able to miss school there way more often then California.
Q: What was your favorite part about Utah?
A: How much snow there was and how easily accessible it was, the mountains were close and rails were everywhere.
Q: What was your least favorite part about Utah?
A: The culture, it was a drastic change from what i grew up with and it was hard to get used to. The people make you feel real uncomfortable if you don’t follow the same things they do. I luckily found a cool group of guys to hang out with and just snowboarded most the time.
Q: Do you skate?
A: Not much on regular decks but i’ve been riding small little cruiser boards a lot, we always find good trails and hillls with banks and stuff.
Q: Favorite Utah Resort?
A: Definitely Brighton, that place is amazing on a good pow day.
Q: Favorite overall resort?
A: Sierra at tahoe, probably cause ive ridden it the most but the pow days are amazing and it has a super good park for when it hasnt snowed for a while.
Q: Favorite snowboard movie of all time?
A: Hard to choose one again, i’ll say 91 words for snow and afterlame.
Q: Best movie of 2011?
A: I still havent had the chance to see all of them yet, but the art of flight turned out really good.
Q: Favorite Trick?
A: a good method or nosepress.
Q: Favorite Snowboarder?
A: It’s hard to just name one, nicolas muller, corey smith, jed anderson, theres a lot of really good new guys too.
Q: Do you still play poker?
A: Haha i probably get a game a year in.
Q: Talk about eleven:eleven a little bit.
A: I wanted to try and make a banana board in my garage so i tried making a press to get the right shape. the boards started turning out pretty good so my buddy kris and i had the idea to start up a banana board company, which started leading to a bunch of other little creation ideas. its basically just an excuse to make whatever sounds fun at the moment.
Q: Famous last words??
A: dont take life too serious, just do what makes you happy.
Thanks Kyle!

Nate D.

The Utah skateboard scene and snowboard scene would not be what it is today without a little shop called: MILOSPORT I’m going to talk specifically about MILO Orem.
The first time I went into Milosport in Orem, I was 13 years old, and the shop was just a few doors south of their current location in Orem. I was just getting into skating and snowboarding, and completely green to the industry. All I knew was that I loved skateboarding, and snowboarding, and that some of my friends at the time talked about how cool Milosport was, and specifically Benny and Todd, the owners of the shop.
I remember like it was yesterday, when I walked into Milo for the first time, Benny was there talking to Milo skater Dave Farr, and Transworld’s Modus Operandi was playing. I was pretty intimidated by the whole environment, but Benny quickly said “what’s up man?” and made me feel pretty welcome. I don’t want to kiss too much butt, but Benny and Todd, and most everyone who has worked there in the past, and currently works their, do a pretty good job making people feel welcome in their store. Whether its a dirty skater kid, or a super mormon mom, they’re all valued customers.
Shops in Utah County have come and gone, and yet Milosport is still here and going strong.
I have so many amazing friends, and a lot of them I know by meeting them at or through Milo and skateboarding and snowboarding.
Keep up the good work Milosport!

and big big big thanks to Benny and Todd at Milsport Orem!

This week’s edition of “Locals Only” is brought to you by Milosport Orem’s David Nelson. He has the best frontside tails in the game, and puts together legit lines with ease at a skate park that is known for being difficult to skate with any type of flow. (Orem Skate Park) I have not known Dave for very long, but from what little I do know, he’s a fun kid who just loves to skate, and is pretty damn good it.

Brinton Street is this week’s “locals only” post. I’ve played many games of skate with Brinton, usually on the Orem Skate Park flatbar, and it usually goes down to the wire, and is always a good time. Brinton is one of my favorite people to skate with because it’s all about fun, and learning new tricks, and keeping old ones consistent. I asked him a few questions, and got some good photos of him skating, some of which were taken by another good friend Weston Colton.
I have to throw this in though… I won the last game of skate that we played… hahaha. Sorry Brinton! Couldn’t resist.
Q: How old are you?
A: 21
Q: Where do you live?
A: Orem UT.
Q: How many years have you been skating?
A: 9
Q: Favorite Skate spot? (street spot)
A: Pg Junior High
Q: Favorite Skate Park?

Q: Favorite Skate Shoes?
A: Addidas
Q: Skate Shop of Choice?
A: Don’t really have one anymore.. As long as its not Zumiez we’re good.
Thanks Brinton.
